In September 2015, I captured this photo on the apron of the unpaved driveway that once led to my grandparents’ farm in Huntersville, North Carolina. It was a watershed moment in my journey as an emerging writer.
Instantly, sweet recollections of my summer visits in the 1960s resurfaced. The familiar curve of the road, rusty soil, kudzu vines, rolling pasture, sloping meadows, towering pines, and whispering birch trees welcomed me. My memories of this refuge–its sights and sounds–were intact. I felt peace.
As an author and reader, I seek the comfort and exhilaration of a great story told through vivid language and imagery. Though I enjoy escaping into a fictional yarn from time to time, I am drawn to the emotional truth–the joys and the traumas–of a well-constructed memoir. I believe each of us has at least one inspiring story to share about our lives, our loves, our losses, our dreams, and our realities. It is our job to open our minds, unleash our words, and release our stories to a world of readers.
I hope you will take a few minutes out of your busy day to explore my website. Here you will learn more about my stories, my books, the indelible people who have influenced me, and the meaningful moments I hold close to my heart.
