I have had my share
of dreadful moments,
flailing against petty,
prescribed walls
constructed of fear,
falsehoods and
feeblemindedness.
I stumbled, but
never succumbed.
Against all odds,
I fought through,
beyond the hate.
I found a better life
on the other side.
I discarded ignorance.
I demanded respect
for my differences.
I am stronger now
for pushing through,
but the fight
for who I am
and who I love
is far from over.
Beautiful poem, Mark…
And a clever illustration, too!
